Part Categories
Bricks, Plates & Tiles
Classic LEGO bricks, plates, and tiles can be stacked vertically by pressing the round studs together with a little force. By pushing the studs of one brick into the "anti-studs" (tubes) of another brick, a firm connection is created, often called "Clutch Power."
Panels, Doors & Windows
Panels, walls, doors, and related parts make it easier to build models than using bricks and plates alone. Most parts in this category are taller than one brick.
Studs Not On Top
These parts let you attach studs facing outward (Studs Not On Top) or place studs offset from the normal grid. SNOT bricks and brackets make sideways building possible.
Slopes & Wedges
Slopes, wedges, and windscreens allow you to incorporate angled sections into your model.
Curved Elements
Build streamlined or organic shapes with a rich palette of curved parts.
Hinges & Joints
Parts that bend or rotate, enabling a wide range of interesting building techniques.
Minifigures & Accessories
The classic LEGO minifigure and Friends mini-doll inhabit a rich world of clothing, accessories, weapons, and containers.
Plants & Animals
Plants, animals, teeth, tails, and elemental forces bring the LEGO world to life.
Wheels & Vehicle Parts
Wheels make your model move, brackets make them stronger, noses make them look faster, and tracks give them a destination.
Pin & Axle System
Technic is a system in itself, focusing on connecting parts with pins and axles.
Motors & Lights
Add light and motion to your creations with LEGO hubs, motors, lights, and sensors.
Large Bricks
The larger bricks for younger children are twice as big in every direction and compatible with regular LEGO bricks.
Sorting Your Parts
Understanding part categories helps you organize your collection more effectively. Here are some tips for sorting based on these categories:
For Small Collections
- • Sort first by color, then by type
- • Keep special parts (Technic, minifig) separate
- • Use small containers with compartments
For Large Collections
- • Sort first by part type/category
- • Sub-sort by size, then color
- • Use drawer systems (Akro-Mils style)
